If Perú is attractive to travelers
it is because of the variety of cultures it offers,
its thousands of years of history, its contrasting geography,
its exquisite artistic traditions and the vivid customs
of its traditional peoples. Little of this would be
known outside of Peru's own borders were it not for
individuals from around the world visiting the country
and taking home stories of their adventures. Heartfelt
and satisfying cultural tourism is more than passively
viewing the scenery, however. It includes interacting
with the people, participating in their festivals and
celebrations and welcoming them as your teachers - this
is what PUCHKA's itineraries are all about and we believe
that we travel to learn, not to teach.

Some refer to the country as "Perú
that never ends" because one could visit every year
during one's lifetime and not see and experience everything.
Unfortunately, many visitors stay on the "tourist trail"
where their physical needs are catered to and yet, there
is another way. PUCHKA offers a unique alternative to,
what appears to us, a one-dimensional approach by diving
deep into the country, experiencing the warmth and skills
of a people living among marvels that are the product
of a history full of meaning, of contrasts and of mystery.
PUCHKA's aim is to be much more than a standard cultural
tour; we want to give our participants a point of view
and experience that will involve them in, as many opportunities
as is possible in 22 days, of the magical reality which
defines Perú.
Our 2007-2009 itineraries are rich with inspiring, hands-on opportunities for diving deep into the world of Peruvian textiles and folk-art. In Lima we visit the major textile collections, gorgeous folk art galleries and the studio of a world-renowned tapestry weaver. In Arequipa we participate in embroidery, tapestry weaving, knitting, braiding and gourd engraving workshops; and we explore this beautiful city with its exquisite architecture, alpaca garments and yarns in a rainbow of colourways; the majestic Colca Valley/Canyon is a highlight during the tour as is Cusco where we participate in knitting, back-strap weaving and braiding workshops; the tour of the Urubamba Valley/Sacred Valley of the Inca includes a stop at the studio of a wonderful felter whose work will surprise and delight.

Throughout the adventure, we enjoy demonstrations of a variety of beautiful folk art, explore a number of fascinating and mysterious archaeological sites, wander through superb museums, absorb the charm of bustling markets, meet with and are guided and taught by a fabulous group of outstanding Peruvians. We also find time to explore the wonderful shopping opportunities in Perú where beautiful silver objects, jewelry, fine folk art, yarns and sophisticated clothing are available to those who know where to look.
